According to IRNA, the Governor of Boyer-Ahmad met today (Tuesday) with several technical and managerial members of Moshanir Company, the largest engineering consultancy in Iran in the field of electricity and energy, to discuss the latest status of the Prashkaft Dam Project.
The Governor of Boyer-Ahmad stated that, with the cooperation and follow up of the Provincial Regional Water Company and the strong support of the Governor General, significant measures have been taken toward the construction of this dam.
Shahram Mahdavi Motlagh added that, given his experience and knowledge of the Niroo Holding of Khatam al Anbiya Headquarters, efforts will be made to utilize the capacities of this organization in the implementation of this major project.
The consulting engineers presented a brief report on the latest actions taken, highlighting the advantages and additional values of the dam, and announced that specialized aerial surveying will commence in the coming weeks.
It was agreed in this meeting that by the end of the current month, a comprehensive session will be held with the participation of the Deputy Governor for Civil Affairs and executive agencies to review the latest progress of the project and prepare the groundwork for its implementation.
It should be noted that Moshanir Company is the project consultant, providing management consultancy, project management, and industrial infrastructure services in the fields of dams, hydropower plants, electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
The technical studies of the Prashkaft Dam and Hydropower Plant Project in Boyer-Ahmad, considered one of the key reservoir dams of the province and the country, began in July of this year.
The Prashkaft Dam and Hydropower Plant, with a storage volume of 202 million cubic meters, is designed to:
• Control destructive floods of the Kabkian River
• Improve agriculture in downstream lands
• Regulate the quantity and quality of river flow for aquaculture projects
• Supply drinking water to Kabkian, Pataveh, and surrounding villages
• Generate environmentally compatible hydropower
• Promote tourism development
The dam is of concrete type, and upon construction, it will stimulate production, create employment, and bring transformation to the region.
According to IRNA, the dam is entirely provincial, with 100 percent of its benefits allocated to Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.
Despite possessing significant water and oil resources, the province faces challenges such as unemployment and the consequent increasing migration of its young population.
To address these challenges, the province’s most important asset—its abundant water resources—must be studied and utilized to establish balanced development aligned with the livelihood conditions of the region.
Accordingly, programs for harnessing surface and groundwater outflows from the province, as well as optimal management and utilization of controlled water resources, have been prioritized by national and provincial water industry managers.
With over 11 billion cubic meters of annual precipitation and 8.5 billion cubic meters of runoff, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad ranks among the leading provinces in terms of water potential.
However, this volume of rainfall occurs mostly within four months of the year, while in the remaining eight months—when demand for drinking water, industrial use, and agriculture is highest—the province experiences minimal or no rainfall across most areas
